Rompin Sailfish Adventure



Nestled on the south east coast of the Malaysian peninsular, Kuala Rompin is a unique area offering anglers of all experience and skill levels spectacular sailfish action. The sailfish are drawn to this part of the South China Sea as the warm currents offer them the ideal feeding grounds for the masses of bait fish within this area. Sailfish work in packs hunting these waters for bait schools and their aggressive feeding patterns offer anglers numerous sport fishing opportunities. The warm, calm waters off the coast of Kuala Rompin are ideal for anglers to target quantities of these billfish. In every august the state government are organizing a "Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge" tournament 

Each day you will be collected from the resort and board your vessel for the short run out to the grounds. Here you will use techniques including live baiting, trolling and popper casting to target numerous sailfish in the calm, warm waters. The abundance of sailfish available is such a drawcard to fishing Rompin, it’s common here to have multiple hookups, free jumping fish, and dozens of shots at fish each day. Other species encountered include marlin, cobia, mackeral, trevally and mahi mahi, making Rompin a very exciting light tackle destination. On completion of each days fishing, return to your resort to enjoy the facilities or head into one of the local restaurants to enjoy a meal.

Basic Equipment for Sailfish FishingLive Bait Drifting & Trolling:
A multiplier or spinning reel with capacity at least 250 meters 50lb mainline.
60lb to 80lb leader. Florocarbon leader will be better.
Circle hook for live bait drifting.

A suitable reel. (equivalent daiwa reel size 4500 and above or shimano reel size 6000)
Popper or pencil around 10 to 15 cm

Kuala Rompin is deemed to be the sailfish fishing capital of Asia, it has one of the best fishing grounds in this region. Bookings for this location are required very much in advance in Kuala Rompin due to the popularity of the Sailfish fishing. The sailfish are around from April till October and August to October is regarded as the best time.

Other species:-
  • April till May you will have other species like the Diamond Trevally (Up to 9kg) and also the Spanish mackerels(Up to 12kg)
  • Squid are from September till October
  • Cobia are in all year round
  • Golden Trevally are in all year round.

Port Dickson Jigging

Located about 90km south from Kuala Lumpur, there is a hidden gems for sport fishing. Port Dickson or also called "PD" by the locals is the place where you will find beaches and resorts which are just perfect for a short weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The most popular beach zones along this stretch are Teluk Kemang, Blue Lagoon, Bagan Pinang and Pantai Cahaya Negeri, supported by major hotels, resorts and apartments that offer budget and luxury family accommodation. Beside swimming, riding banana boat and jet skiing, fishing is another attraction at Port Dickson.

For fishing trip at Port Dickson, you can choose to go for day fishing trip or night fishing trip. Normally day fishing trip is suitable for jigging, casting, popping and bottom fishing. While night fishing is more into bottom fishing. The boat is suitable for 3 angler + 1 fishing guide. The usual fish that can be caught at Port Dickson is Queen Fish, Grouper, Giant Trevally, Golden Snapper and Spanish Mackerel. Port Dickson can be fished all year round just depends on the weather and wind condition.

With many natural & artificial coral reef and few ship wreck around the Port Dickson area, it makes a good spot for light jigging technique fishing. Lure casting and popping also can be try at the ship wreck.

Jarak Island Jigging & Popping

Located 34km southwest of the town of Lumut, Perak, Pulau Jarak (Jarak Island) is one of the famous Malaysia's GT jigging & popping destination. This tiny island (barely 8 hectares in size) rises 50m above sea level and is covered with lush vegetation, where many sea eagles nest. There is no beach on Pulau Jarak, only granite sloping down to the sandy sea bed with small patches of stony, encrusting and soft corals. Other than Giant Trevally, Pulau jarak also have abundance of golden snapper, grouper, big eye trevally , cobia and many more species.

 With a lots of trees and vegetation, Jarak Island is like a green paradise in the middle of Straight Of Malacca. Around the island there are various types of hard and soft corals, which provide protection to the smaller fish and it's make a perfect spot for the predator to hunt. Popping, jigging & lure casting are the main technique used by sport fishing angler in Jarak Island. Because of the strong underwater current ah heavy jig range from 100grams to 200grams are required.
